The Internal Complaints and Sexual Harassment Committee (ICSHC) is dedicated to creating a safe and supportive environment where all individuals within the institution can work, study and engage without the fear of harassment or discrimination. The committee is committed to preventing and addressing any form of sexual harassment, misconduct, or inappropriate behavior that might undermine an individual’s dignity, safety, or well-being.

The committee actively raises awareness about sexual harassment issues through workshops, training programs, and campaigns to educate the institution’s community about their rights, responsibilities, and how to report harassment. It ensures strict confidentiality and impartiality when handling complaints, investigating allegations, and recommending appropriate actions. The committee adheres to legal guidelines and follows a fair procedure to resolve complaints in a timely.

POSH Policy

(Aligned with UGC Regulations, 2015 & POSH Act, 2013)

  1. Introduction

The Constitution of India guarantees equality of status and opportunity, and the right to live with dignity. Sexual harassment in workplaces and educational institutions is a violation of these constitutional rights.

The Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 (POSH Act) and the UGC (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal of Sexual Harassment of Women Employees and Students in Higher Educational Institutions) Regulations, 2015 provide the framework to prevent, prohibit, and redress such violations.
Jai Narain College of Technology (JNCT) is committed to ensuring a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for all.

  1. Objectives
  • To raise awareness about rights and protections under the POSH Act and UGC Regulations.
  • To ensure a safe space for students and employees to report harassment without fear.
  • To empower individuals with knowledge of redressal mechanisms.
  • To implement fair inquiry and redressal systems through the ICC.
  • To maintain compliance with legal obligations.
  1. Scope

      This policy applies to:

  • All students (UG, PG, research scholars)
  • All employees (teaching, non-teaching, administrative)
  • Visitors, contractors, and service providers
  • All physical and digital spaces related to JNCT
  1. Definition of Sexual Harassment

        Includes, but is not limited to:

  • Unwelcome sexual advances
  • Demands for sexual favors
  • Making sexually colored remarks
  • Showing pornographic content
  • Physical contact of a sexual nature
  • Online sexual harassment or inappropriate conduct via electronic means
  1. Constitution of Internal Complaints Committee (ICC)

      As per UGC and POSH Act mandates, the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) at JNCT is constituted as follows:

  1. Roles and Responsibilities of the ICC
  • Receive, document, and process complaints of sexual harassment
  • Conduct fair, confidential, and unbiased inquiries
  • Provide emotional support and ensure protection to the complainant
  • Recommend appropriate action to the administration
  • Ensure implementation and follow-up of the recommendations
  • Organize awareness and sensitization programs
  • Submit annual reports and maintain all records
  • Periodically review policies and update procedures

       7. Complaint Mechanism

  • Who can complain: Any aggrieved woman (employee or student)
  • How to complain: Submit a written complaint to the IC within 7 days of the incident
  • Assistance: The IC shall assist the complainant in writing the complaint if required
  1. Inquiry Process
  • Initial inquiry to be completed within 7 working days
  • Formal investigation and hearing within 90 days
  • Submission of findings and recommendation to the College Administration
  • Appropriate action to be taken within 90 days of receiving the IC report.
  1. Disciplinary Action

       Depending on the severity of the offense, the college may impose:

  • Warning or written apology
  • Suspension or termination (in case of staff)
  • Debarring from exams or expulsion (in case of students)
  • Legal action if required
  1. Protection against Retaliation

    No complainant, witness, or IC member will face retaliation or victimization for bringing forward a complaint or participating in the process.

  1. Awareness & Training

     JNCT will:

  • Conduct regular workshops and sensitization programs for staff and students
  • Display POSH awareness posters across campus
  • Include POSH orientation in student and staff induction
  1. Review and Amendment

     This policy shall be reviewed periodically and revised in line with legislative changes and feedback from stakeholders.
